Training for the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon distance events is reaching its peak, but there is still plenty of time to start training for the Cellcom Green Bay 5K. The 3.1-mile event will take place on Saturday, May 20 at 9:00 a.m. and is open to runners and walkers.
“This event is great for experienced short-distance runners, first-time racers, families, or walkers,” said Toni Jaeckels, race director of the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon. “The distance is achievable for people of all experience levels and is a great way to get active with the family.”
Prevea Sports Medicine has a free six-week training plan for new runners who are looking to train for the 5K.
“You do not need to have any running experience to utilize this training plan. It provides a daily walk and run distance that helps you gradually build to running a 5K over the course of six weeks,” said Mike LaMere, Prevea Training Run Director.
The Cellcom Green Bay 5K uses the same start and finish line as the distance races and travels through the neighborhoods surrounding Lambeau Field, including a lap through the stadium in the final mile before the finish. The race will finish in the stadium parking lot and feature a tailgate-style finish line party sponsored by Festival Foods.
The event will be chip-timed and awards will be presented to the top three men and women in each age group. Strollers are permitted in this event.
